Is Your Email Management Effective?
Do you dread going to work on a Monday morning? Is it because you’re dreading the day ahead of you, or because you know there will be close to 100 emails sitting there waiting for you to handle? Are you going to put off looking in that inbox until mid-morning or lunchtime?
Below are some strategies that you can try to get yourself into a more productive email workflow. Keep in mind that these may not work for everyone, so try one or try them all; what’s important is to find a workflow that works for you!
Check Your Email During Specific Time Blocks
Time blocking is the method that I use and LOVE! I have my vacation responder turned on with a message that lets my clients know that I have received their email, but that to be as productive as possible, I work in time blocks, including a time block to check my emails. I assure them that I will respond to them during my next email working block. This lets them know that I will respond to their email on my schedule, not theirs.
Use Your Filters & Labels
How amazing would it be to open your inbox, and EVERYTHING is already labeled, and the emails that don’t need to be read (such as newsletters) have already been archived for you? I’d say that’s pretty darn amazing! I feel giddy when I open my inbox on a Monday, and 90% of my emails are labeled with their folder names, and the junk has been archived or deleted for me. All of this has been accomplished with my filters and labels doing the work for me!
Set Up Email Templates
Enable your email template setting and set yourself up with some templated emails. Using templates will save you time and keystrokes when you can quickly pull up an already composed email, customize it with the recipient’s name and a few details, and send it off. This has saved me hours of having to retype the same email over and over again!

Get Back To Nature For Improved Health And Happiness
I LOVE being outdoors! I have been spending time outside in my garden, and I find it very therapeutic. There is just something about breathing the fresh air, the warmth of the sun, the smell of the earth, and the sound of birds singing. Looking around at all of the flowers in bloom and the greenery has a calming effect on me. Being out in nature engages all of my senses and has a way of making me feel joyful and
relaxed.
Aside from improving mood and reducing stress, it’s believed that being outdoors in nature can also boost your immune system and increase anti-cancer proteins! That makes a lot of sense because when we are outside in the sunlight, our body is absorbing Vitamin D. Studies have shown that decreased Vitamin D levels may be linked to certain cancers. Vitamin D is also thought to be one of the main vitamins that help boost our immune system to
fight the COVID-19 virus. I don’t know about you, but that makes my time in the sun even more beneficial.
The Mental Health Benefits Of The Great Outdoors
Being outside in the great outdoors helps our mental health in so many ways. Symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression are often relieved when spending time outdoors. There have been countless studies about the positive effects on our mental health when we are outside in nature.
These studies show that there is a strong connection between time spent in nature and reduced negative emotions. Symptoms such as irritability, insomnia, tension headaches, and indigestion often improve, just to name a few.
Time outdoors significantly reduces your levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Nature boosts the endorphin levels and dopamine production, which are the feel-good hormones that promote happiness.
If you have ADHD or have trouble focusing, try going for a walk outside. Studies show that being out in nature improves creative thinking and restores concentration and attention. You may experience increased energy and vitality, as well.
What You Can Do To Experience The Benefits Of Nature
These simple ways to experience nature will have you improving your mental state and feelings of well-being:
- Take a walk in the woods. If you don’t live near areas with a lot of trees, you may find a park nearby with trees and other foliage.
- Move your workouts to the outdoors. Switch up your gym routine with outdoor activities such as walking, jogging, cycling, or swimming. Find an outdoor yoga class or just take your normal yoga routine outside in nature.
- Book a camping trip. This is the best way to experience the benefits of nature, by totally immersing yourself in it. If camping isn’t your thing, try “glamping.” You can still experience the great outdoors while sleeping in a more luxurious tent that’s fit for a queen!
- Engage all of your senses when you can get outside. Breathe deep and inhale the scents of nature. The smell of fresh pine can reduce anxiety and stress levels. Pause and listen to the sound of birds singing or sounds of water movement. Whether it’s a trickling of water from a creek, or a rushing waterfall, or a crashing of waves, the sound of water movement can help lower stress
levels.
Whatever types of activities you enjoy doing, try doing them outside. Reading a book outside on a hammock in your yard, making an evening fire out in the backyard, or relaxing on your porch and taking in the sights can all help you to receive the benefits of nature.
